Well, an experienced UK traveller mentioned before we travelled here “only pack half the number of clothes, and take twice as much money” .. and in London, “just treat Pounds as Australian dollars”… the conversion of £1 = $2.48 is irrelevant…
How true both these are … food, sightseeing & travel is much more expensive than I budgeted … and I am getting used to paying £2.2 for a coffee (=$5.40!!!).
Anyway today, we saw Changing of the Guard .. well we didn’t actually see that part, we did a Royal Walking tour, and the guide took us to St James palace where the old Guard prepare to go off-duty & new Guards prepare to on-duty.
Then as the Guards marched to Buckingham Palace, and we walked along side them, much closer than actually being at Buckingham Palace gates with thousands of others only catching a distance glimpse of the actual changeover (which is better on TV).
We found Westminster Abbey with all the tombs & crypts was duller and less interesting than St Pauls (which was more inspiring) … another seasoned traveller suggested we should have paid for the audio guide…
Tonight, we had dinner in a typical old English Pub, with Christine, a Sydney friend who has lived here for the last 3 years…. couldn’t quite get the barlady to make a Lemon Lime & bitters… will need to find something else to drink in UK..
